Desktop delight

Rotel has revealed its all new DX-3 headphone amp, which also doubles up as a preamp and DAC.

Measuring just 215 x 76 x 247mm, the desktop sized DX-3 sports analogue and digital (coaxial, optical and USB) inputs alongside wireless aptXTM HD and AAC Bluetooth, catering for data up to 32-bit/384kHz (USB) with DSD 4X support too.

Front panel connections include 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm single ended headphone connectors while XLR’s are also on offer as power amplifier connections.

Inside its high-grade components, include an ESS Sabre ES9028PRO 8-channel DAC, an ultra-low noise, custom in-house manufactured (well, this is Rotel after all!), toroidal transformer with high current drivers and high-quality capacitors, while its analogue and digital power supplies are fully isolated from each other.

In addition its volume attenuation is governed by an audio-grade NJW1195A fully differential analog controller for precise 0.5dB steps. The DX-3 also includes custom engineered and tuned low pass filters using a full balanced, fully differential signal path to reduce unwanted noise and distortion.
