Hi-res premium portable specialist Astell&Kern has introduced the latest member of its A&ultima series, the SP2000T. Building on the more pricey A&ultima SP2000, this latest player is the first to feature quad DACs and a new triple amp system, allowing music fans to switch between the sonic characteristics of a traditional op-amp mode, a vacuum tube amp (yes, it has tubes despite the size!) and a hybrid option that combines the two for the best of both sonic worlds.
Feature packed
The SP2000T’s vacuum amp section is built around a dual-triode KORG Nutube, featuring an anode grid filament structure that operates in the same way as a triode vacuum tube, while being more compact and consuming far less power says A&K.
On the digital side, the SP2000T’s internal QUAD-DAC is derived from four ES9068AS DACs (with two DACs per channel dedicated for decoding).
There’s also a Replay Gain function that automatically adjusts volume levels from sound sources up to 24-bit/192 kHz, so playlists can be enjoyed without having to tweak the volume between tracks.
