Cambridge Audio has revealed its all new EX Series, comprised of the EXA100 stereo integrated amplifier and EXN100 music streamer. Over three years in the making and with almost six decades of audio expertise behind them, Cambridge Audio says the new EX Series is a serious step up in performance and versatility.
EXA100
Described as the beating heart of EX range, the EXA100 draws on trickledown amp tech from the brand’s flagship Edge M power amp with 100W per channel of Class AB amplification, thanks to an advanced heavily shielded, super-quiet toroidal transformer, flanked by heavy-duty heat sinks.
Connections wise it gets balanced XLRs and three sets of single-ended RCA inputs, alongside a 6.3mm headphone socket, stereo pre-out and a subwoofer pre-out.
While on the digital side an ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC is on hand to convert signals from its HDMI eARC, USB, coaxial and twin optical sockets, with Bluetooth aptX HD also included for good measure.
EXN100
Continuing the anatomy analogy, CA says the EXN100 is the brains of the new EX Series, which builds on the ESS Reference DAC from the brand’s acclaimed CXN100 with further tuning to its signal path.
It also gets HDMI eARC for TV connectivity and a 25% larger colour display within its higher spec case made from premium materials with a milled aluminium front panel and knurled control knob.
Inside an ESS ES9028Q2M SABRE32 Reference DAC is there for PCM signals up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD 512, all controlled via the brand’s 4th generation StreamMagic platform. Connections include hardwired via USB, coaxial and optical and wireless options via Chromecast, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth aptX HD.
