Following in the footsteps of its smaller Super Denton sibling, Wharfedale is taking its large vintage inspired Linton standmount loudspeaker to ‘Super’ status, thanks to a raft of updates.
Building on the 2019 standard Linton model from within its Heritage range (that was in turn inspired by the original Lintons of the 60s and 70s), this new variant boasts improvements to its drive units, crossover and cabinet.
The Super Linton’s new cabinet is 4cm taller than the standard model, increasing the speaker’s internal volume. Its construction has also been enhanced thanks to dual fibreboard layers, coupled by a latex-based damping glue that’s specially formulated to reduce panel resonance with long-hair fibre and acoustic foam to aid internal damping.
For its drive units, the Super Linton gets a more powerful motor system for its 200mm kevlar bass driver with increased magnet strength, to deepen low-frequency extension to 32Hz.
The 135mm kevlar coned midrange unit also gets its own cylindrical chamber at its rear, with graded layers of long-hair fibre to cancel out back waves.
While for high frequency duties the Super Linton’s new tweeter inherits much of its design from the one used in Wharfdale’s flagship Dovedale model (that we tested in May ’24), with a 25mm fine fabric weave dome coated in a special damping material and ceramic magnet-based motor system with a damped rear chamber. At its front a revised short horn profile and new front plate surround the dome for a smoother response.
Other features include twin circuit boards for the crossover sporting air-core inductors and a proprietary ‘Super-Power’ laminated silicon-iron core for the bass inductor, alongside low-loss polypropylene capacitors, low inductance resistors and upgraded LCOFC (Linear Crystal Oxygen Free Copper) internal cabling.
Priced at £1,849 per pair (£1,999 with stands) and available in walnut, mahogany, black oak wood veneers, visit wharfedale.co.uk to find out more.
