Off the scale

Chord Electronics has officially launched what it says is the most radical advancement in digital audio technology this century, housed within its new Quartet reference-class upscaler.

The device, which takes digital audio data and reconstructs it with a degree of timing accuracy that conventional digital technology cannot approach says Chord Electronics, is the most significant digital audio product in the company’s 37-year history.

At its heart beats what CE’s Rob Watts claims to be the most advanced filter ever incorporated into a consumer audio product. Titled the Blackbird WTA (Watts Transient Aligned), this joins a built-in ADC (analogue-to-digital converter) within the Quartet, which allows analogue sources (including turntables) to benefit from its powerful upscaling tech for the first time in a Chord Electronics’ product.
