Worthing based loudspeaker legend Bowers & Wilkins has updated its in-ear earphones with the launch of its all new Pi6 and Pi8 wireless in-ear monitors.
Both models support aptX adaptive at 24-bit/96kHz with the Pi8 also including aptX Lossless, while the Pi6 features new 12mm bio-cellulose drive units based on tech lifted from the brand’s award-winning Px7 S2e over-ear headphones (which we recently reviewed).
The flagship Pi8 also gets an upgraded DAC, DSP and amplifier components plus Carbon Cone drive unit technology that was first developed for the brand’s flagship Px8 over-ear headphones (reviewed in December ’23).
Both the Pi6 and Pi8 sport a range of design updates in their IP54-rated carcasses, at the core of which is a redesign of their overall shape which is based on extensive research into the variations in the human ear’s form, to create an earbud that sets the standard.
Their multipoint Bluetooth pairing uses an upgraded antennae and offers simpler connectivity from audio devices to the earbuds, so users can now quickly pair a second device to their Pi6s or Pi8s without having to remove the buds from their ears.
There’s also Made for iPhone (MFi) support to ensure seamless integration with iOS devices and onboarding through Bowers & Wilkins’ Music app. Google Fast Pair (GFP) support will follow shortly.
Add to this tone-control adjustments for the Pi6 and a new large capacitive touch surface for both models with advanced sensors to improve responsiveness shows that the boffins at Bowers have really done their homework.
The Pi6 offers 8 hours of battery life from their earbuds with a further 16 hours available from the charging case while the Pi8 offers 6.5 hours of battery life with a further 13.5 hours available from their smartcase.
With the Pi6 model costing £219 in ‘Storm’ grey, ‘Cloud’ grey, ‘Forest’ green and ‘Glacier’ blue and the Pi8 at £249 in ‘Anthracite’ black, ‘Dove’ white, ‘Jade’ green and ‘Midnight’ blue, find out more at Bowers & Wilkins.
