TAD Labs (aka Technical Audio Device Laboratories) has announced its TAD-ME1TX bookshelf speaker system featuring upgraded CST Drivers and a raft of other refinements.
As the newest addition to its Evolution speaker series, the TAD-ME1TX replaces the TAD-ME1 from 2016. Improvements includes a 25mm tweeter at the centre of a 9cm point-source Coherent Source Transducer (CST) midrange driver, with the former featuring a beryllium diaphragm manufactured using TAD’s proprietary vapour-deposition technique.
The midrange woofer also gets an upgrade thanks to a newly developed magnesium diaphragm with anodised coating that aims to be lightweight with high internal loss properties. The frame basket’s arm has been redesigned to achieve greater structural strength combined with smoother propagation of sound waves behind the midrange diaphragm.
On bass duties a 16cm woofer employs a Multi-layered Aramid Composite Cone (MACC) diaphragm composed of laminated layers of woven aramid and non-woven fabric, aligned to a Linear Drive Magnet Circuit (LDMC) with a corrugated surround made of foamed polycarbonate. This works in tandem with a bidirectional Aero-Dynamic Slot (ADS) port design that’s inherited from the new model’s predecessor.
All of this air-moving tech is housed in a SILENT (Structurally Inert Laminated Enclosure Technology) cabinet which combines birch-plywood braces with MDF panels plus 5mm-thick steel side panels to reduce cabinet vibration.
Available in black or silver/white finishes, the TAD-ME1TX costs £17,500, with colour matched stands adding an extra £2,995.
