Audiolab has unleashed not one but two new DACS as direct descendants of its acclaimed M-DAC and its M-DAC+ replacement.
Named the D7 and D9 and priced at £449 and £1,099 respectively, the former is based around a ES9038Q2M 32-bit Sabre DAC chip (also used in Audiolab’s 7000A and 6000A MkII integrated amps). This then gets Audiolab’s proprietary circuitry to make the most of ESS Technology’s HyperStream II architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, alongside a proprietary clock, power supply circuitry and Class A post-DAC active filter.
Catering for data 32-bit/768kHz (PCM) and DSD 22.5792MHz (DSD512) via USB, it’s also Roon Tested and offers aptX HD Bluetooth connectivity plus coaxial and optical digital in/outputs alongside line-level (RCA), balanced (XLR) and headphone (6.35mm) analogue outputs.
The D9 builds on this with a more powerful ES9038PRO (32-bit, 8-channel) chipset plus AES3/EBU inputs and 2.8in colour screen, mirroring Audiolab’s flagship models.
