Marking its 30th birthday, AVID is building on the success of its tonearm range by taking both its Nexus and more affordable Altus models to V2 status, thanks to the latest iteration of its bias control tech.
As we discovered when we reviewed the original Nexus (which took our top product spot of 2024), AVID’s unique approach to bias control compensates for how optimal tracking varies across the record surface and higher levels of bias force are needed at the beginning and end of the record, while less is required in the middle, with additional variations depending on the cartridge’s stylus profile.
Addressing these challenges, these V2 models take this tech one step further by allowing independent adjustments for each section of the record.
The Nexus V2 costs £4,950, while the Altus V2 comes in at £1,650.
Owners of existing models can take their arms to V2 status too, which costs £300 for a Nexus arm and £265 for Altus, underlining the brand’s ethos of not building obsolescence into its product range.
