Nagaoka MP-700

85 years strong

Launching officially at High End Munich 2025, meet Nagaoka’s new range-topping MP-700 Moving Permalloy cartridge.

Designed to honour the company’s eight and a half decade legacy, and brought to the UK Sound Design Distribution, as its name implies this range-topping pick-up employs a lightweight permalloy piece attached to the cantilever, significantly reducing mass, while allowing the attached stylus to move with increased freedom and precision.

Sporting a boron cantilever paired with a new micro-ridge nude diamond stylus measuring just 0.12 x 0.3 mil, the MP-700 also incorporates intentionally soft damping.

Elsewhere, its design includes a newly integrated suspension wire in the pivot system to control the cantilever and stylus, plus a shielded case and cartridge frame crafted from ultra-duralumin. The latter also gets special treatment thanks to three surface layers of nickel, black tin and an insulating coating to minimise static interference while improving heat and wear resistance.

With a load impedance of standard moving-magnet pick-ups at 47 KΩ and 4mV output, it’s designed to work with a wide range of amps and turntables and offers a replaceable stylus. Priced at £1,49 for the cartridge alone or £1,249 including the headshell, visit nagaoka.co.jp to find out more.
