AVID Dark Iron

Dark Iron

Hi-end analogue audio expert AVID has launched its new Acutus Dark Iron, the first new turntable from the British based manufacturer in six years.

The new model replaces the Acutus Dark Limited Edition and comes dressed in new darker ‘sparkling iron’ livery while sporting a new pivotal integrated motor design, which sees the motor coupled to the main chassis.

This, says AVID, allows it to maintain correct drive-belt alignment, including when the turntable is levelled using the adjustable feet, while eliminating speed-related issues.

The motor system is a high-torque AC synchronous type with twin round-section drive belts and a DSP derived power supply, with 80VA mains transformer.

And all that torque is needed to drive its hefty 10kg aluminium platter, topped with a 10mm damping disc and trademark TMShrunk felt-composite mat as standard.

The Acutus Dark Iron comes supplied with AVID’s single-action clamp, while its sub chassis is a one-piece multi-fold aluminium casting type that’s coated with damping material to neutralise vibration.

Priced at £10,000, find out more from AVID HiFi.
