Elegan designs

Designed as the spiritual successors to its L Series, Quad has announced its new Elegan loudspeaker range.

Comprised of the standmount Elegan 1 at £759 and floorstanding Elegan 2 at £1,499, each speaker has been freshly developed from the ground up and feature 25mm fabric dome tweeters and lattice-woven kevlar cones.

These mid/bass cones are impregnated with a self-damping resin to further minimise distortion and while the two-way the Elegan 1 gets a single 65mm variant, the three-way Elegan 2 gets double these for low frequencies, plus a 125mm variant that’s dedicated to midrange duties.

Each speaker’s crossover boasts a Linkwitz-Riley acoustic topology with the Elegan 2’s more complex three-way configuration incorporating fourth-order slopes for midrange-to-treble integration and second-order slopes for bass-to-midrange.

Polypropylene capacitors are used throughout, with aircore inductors for midrange and treble sections and high-power laminated cores for bass. The PCB layouts have also been optimised for signal integrity, with short signal paths and controlled grounding.

For their cabinets, high-density walls have been specified, combined with strategically positioned internal bracing and damping materials to control panel resonance and reduce energy storage.

And for bass loading Quad’s Airflow (rear) porting system is on hand, incorporating carefully profiled geometries to reduce turbulence and promote smoother airflow.
