Specialist audio distributor Sound Design Distribution is bringing Grimm Audio’s PW1 MC/MM phono preamplifier to the UK.
Billed as a companion for Grimm’s MU2 streamer/DAC/pre and LS1 active loudspeaker, it’s designed by Grimm Audio’s co-founder Peter van Willenswaard.
The PW1’s solid state architecture follows a a minimalist path principle of ‘what’s not in it, cannot stand in the way’ and sports single low-noise FET amplification stages, plus fine-tuning by ear and precisely arranged PCB layouts.
Other features include a custom-designed ‘silent’ (low magnetic field) power supply transformer within the PW1’s aluminium enclosure and copper sub-chassis, for greater shielding to the mains input and main power supply. Moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges are both well served thanks to a choice of selectable load and gain settings (accessed via a sliding panel), while outputs are offered via single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) connections
