Southport’s iFi Audio is set to whet the appetites of headphone fans with the launch of its new hip-dac2 portable USB headphone amp.
Launched 21 months after the original hip-dac hit our pockets, this upgraded version looks fresh in a gorgeous ‘sunset orange’ anodised finish, in place of the original’s petrol blue paint work.
Its internals have also been reworked too with a 16-core XMOS processor, delivering double the clock speed and four times the memory of its predecessor, alongside full MQA decoding. Hi-res PCM and DXD audio data are supported at sampling rates up to 384kHz, alongside DSD up to 256.
Socketry includes USB ports for audio data and charging plus 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs, catering for both single-ended and balanced cans. Battery life is between and 8 and 12 hours of playing time between charges.
Priced at £189 with the dedicated dove grey case costing an extra £29. Find out more on iFi Audio’s website.
