Where’s my Utopia?

French luxury loudspeaker brand Focal has unveiled its Diva Alta Utopia, the latest addition to the Utopia range and the company’s most advanced wireless and connected loudspeaker system to date.

Developed alongside Focal’s sister brand Naim, the active Alta boasts 600W of the British company’s Class AB amplification per speaker, distributed across four dedicated channels.

Powered by Naim’s Pulse streaming platform, ultra high-res audio processing is on offer up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM, with high-resolution streaming support for Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Bluetooth 5.3 and UPnP, plus HDMI eARC for TV integration and smart-home compatibility.

Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless tech is also on hand, enabling lossless speaker-to-speaker communication up to 24-bit/192kHz, offering high-res performance without the need for extra cables.

Its four-way driver complement includes four 8″ (20.5cm) side-firing ‘W’ woofers in a push-push configuration, plus a 6.5″ (16.5cm) ‘W’ mid/bass unit with TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) suspension and NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) motor. Added to these are a 5″ (13cm) ‘W’ midrange woofer with ‘M’ profile and 27mm ‘PRISM’ IAL2 inverted dome tweeter.
