Following a flurry of new product launches from AVID, including its Relveo and Ingenium SE turntables, Velsonic plus Pellar II and Pulsus II phono stages, comes it’s most recent ambitious products yet.
The new Opus Pre and Power models represent the gateway into AVID’s two box amp range, sitting above its three-stong integrated line.
The Opus Pre’s features a high-end ALPS RK50 volume control with remote operation plus the same substantial toroidal transformer as is in the brand’s Celsus preamp. Add to this bespoke analogue circuitry, AVID’s own polypropylene capacitors and an inbuilt phono stage that’s based on its latest Pulsus II model, with dedicated 35VA transformer, and a range of settings for moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, and it’s clear this amp is AVID through and through.
The OPUS power amp boasts a massive 1,1KVA toroidal transformer and 132,000μF of reservoir capacitance, providing enormous power reserves aimed at allowing it to remain composed during the most demanding musical passages. Custom amplifier topology, premium polypropylene capacitors and balanced alongside single-ended connectivity are on the spec sheet too.
Timed to be released at the upcoming Hong Kong AV Show, we were lucky enough to experience both amps feeding AVID’s own speakers in June at Reference Audio, and suffice to say, they didn’t disappoint.
